SoloTop for Apple Vision Pro

I've unboxed more VR headsets than I care to admit, but the Apple Vision Pro was a particularly exciting one for me for numerous reasons.

48 hours later and I had already designed and resin printed the first prototype for what would become the SoloTop… I just wanted to wear the Vision Pro for longer than 30 minutes without being in pain.

Even though it wasn't perfect, I knew I was headed in the right direction. So I created some nice renders in Unreal and posted an interest check in r/VisionPro.

Turns out I was far from only person that felt like they desperately needed to fix the comfort. People were excited to see a DIY solution that didn't look so… "DIY".

But I still felt like I could improve the design even further, so I spent the next couple of days iterating as well as improving the material characteristics and refining the printing processes so that I could efficiently print larger, more durable batches in a single print.

I ended up finding the perfect balance for the SoloTop adapter that truly allowed the second Solo Band to relieve a significant amount of pressure off of the front my face.

Not to mention the installation was a breeze.

After creating my Etsy and unveiling SoloTop v1 in r/VisionPro, I had already received 300 orders within 48 hours… I didn't have enough printing throughput, even though I already prepared my batch printing processes.

People were raving about how much it improved their comfort with the Vision Pro.

Within a week I had to order three large-format resin printers, clean & cure machines, and proper PPE just to keep up with the volume of orders. My poor closet was running out of space.

Shout out to my amazing girlfriend, Tricia, for helping me pack and ship orders almost as fast as I could print and post process them

In the midst of all of the craziness, I also designed and released the SoloTop Dev, a version made specifically for the official Vision Pro Developer Strap.

This was such a fun and rewarding (albeit very stressful at times) project and I'm incredibly grateful to everyone that cheered me on.

Over 2,600 orders later, and the SoloTop is still the #1 selling Apple Vision Pro accessory on Etsy.
