What is CNN VR?

CNN VR is a VR application (available on Rift and GearVR) created through a partnership with Magnopus. It gives users the ability to explore CNN’s most current new stories in a new and tactile way.

What Did I Work On?

My tasks at Magnopus when working on CNN VR were to work directly with the clients to create UE4 prototypes that answered important UX questions surrounding creating a fresh new take on browsing current news in VR. Below you’ll find a few gifs of interactions that I prototyped that ended up making their way into the final application.

The News Interface

I prototyped the layout and transitions of the news interface (which you’ll see in later gifs).

Interacting With The News Interface

I created prototypes to inform what it would look and feel like to using a swiping gesture to paginate through news stories. Needless to say this took quite a few iterations to get right.

Interface Height Adjustment

I created prototypes that helped determine how the interface would automatically adjust to a user’s height.

News Story Interactions

Picking Up & Inspecting

I also created prototypes that fleshed out what picking up stories looked and felt like.

Playing News Stories

Controller Interfaces

I also created prototypes that fleshed out what having UI elements on the controllers themselves would look and feel like.
